2. | Lament for Theoden | 04:01 | Show lyrics |
From dark Dunharrow in the dim morning with thane and captain rode Thengel’s son: to Edoras he came, the ancient halls of the Mark-wardens mist-enshrouded; golden timbers were in gloom mantled. Farewell he bade to his free people, hearth and high-seat, and the hallowed places, where long he had feasted ere the light faded. Forth rode the king, fear behind him, fate before him. Fealty kept he; oaths he had taken, all fulfilled them. Forth rode Theoden. five nights and days east and onward rode the Eorlingas through Folde and Fenmarch and the Firienwood, six thousand spears to Sunlending, Mundburg the mighty under Mindolluin, Sea-kings; city in the South-kingdom foe-beleaguered, fire-encircled. Doom drove them on. Darkness took them, horse and horseman; hoofbeats afar sank into silence; so the songs tell us. |

4. | Boromir’s Riddle | 04:01 | Show lyrics |
Seek for the Sword that was broken: In Imladris it dwells; There shall be counsels taken Stronger than Morgul-spells. There shall be shown a token That Doom is near at hand, For Isildur’s Bane shall waken, And the Halfling forth shall stand. |
|||
5. | Isildur’s Curse | 04:34 | Show lyrics |
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. |
|||
6. | The Fall of Gil-galad | 04:00 | Show lyrics |
Gil-galad was an Elven-king. Of him the harpers sadly sing; the last whose realm was fair and free between the Mountains and the Sea. His sword was long, his lance was keen. His shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven’s field were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago he rode away, and where he dwelleth none can say; for into darkness fell his star in Mordor where the shadows are. |
|||
7. | The Riddle of Strider (album version) | 03:27 | Show lyrics |
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king. |

9. | Song in the Orc-Tower | 05:40 | Show lyrics |
In western lands beneath the Sun the flowers may rise in Spring, the trees may bud, the waters run, the merry finches sing. Or there maybe ’tis cloudless night and swaying beeches bear the Elven-stars as jewels white amid their branching hair. Though here at journey’s end I lie in darkness buried deep, beyond all towers strong and high, beyond all mountains steep, above all shadows rides the Sun and Stars for ever dwell: I will not say the Day is done, nor bid the Stars farewell. |
|||
10. | Malbeth the Seer’s Words | 05:58 | Show lyrics |
For the hour is come for the oathbreakers; At the Stone of Erech, they shall stand again And hear there a horn in the hills ringing. Whose shall the horn be? Who shall call them Over the land there lies a long shadow, westward reaching wings of darkness. The Tower trembles; to the tombs of kings doom approaches. The Dead awaken; for the hour is come for the oathbreakers: at the Stone of Erech they shall stand again and hear there a horn in the hills ringing. Whose shall the horn be? Who shall call them from the grey twilight, the forgotten people? The heir of him to whom the oath they swore. From the North shall he come, need shall drive him: he shall pass the Door to the Paths of the Dead. |

Far over the Misty Mountains cold, To dungeons deep and caverns old, We must away, ere break of day, To seek our pale enchanted gold. The dwarves of yore made mighty spells, While hammers fell like ringing bells, In places deep, where dark things sleep, In hollow halls beneath the fells. For ancient king and elvish lord There many a gleaming golden hoard They shaped and wrought, and light they caught, To hide in gems on hilt of sword. On silver necklaces they strung The flowering stars, on crowns they hung The dragon-fire, on twisted wire They meshed the light of moon and sun. Far over the Misty Mountains cold, To dungeons deep and caverns old, We must away, ere break of day, To claim our long-forgotten gold. Goblets they carved there for themselves, And harps of gold, where no man delves There lay they long, and many a song Was sung unheard by men or elves. The pines were roaring on the heights, The wind was moaning in the night, The fire was red, it flaming spread, The trees like torches blazed with light. The bells were ringing in the Dale, And men looked up with faces pale. The dragon’s ire, more fierce than fire, Laid low their towers and houses frail. The mountain smoked beneath the moon. The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom. They fled the hall to dying fall Beneath his feet, beneath the moon. Far over the Misty Mountains grim, To dungeons deep and caverns dim, We must away, ere break of day, To win our harps and gold from him! Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away ere break of day To claim our long forgotten gold. The wind was on the withered heath, But in the forest stirred no leaf: There shadows lay by night and day, And dark things silent crept beneath. The wind came down from mountains cold, And like a tide it roared and rolled. The branches groaned, the forest moaned, And leaves were laid upon the mould. The wind went on from West to East; All movement in the forest ceased. But shrill and harsh across the marsh Its whistling voices were released. The grasses hissed, their tassels bent, The reeds were rattling, on it went. O’er shaken pool under heavens cool, Where racing clouds were torn and rent. It passed the Lonely Mountain bare, And swept above the dragon’s lair: There black and dark lay boulders stark, And flying smoke was in the air. It left the world and took its flight Over the wide seas of the night. The moon set sail upon the gale, And stars were fanned to leaping light. Under the Mountain dark and tall The King has come unto his hall! His foe is dead, the Worm of Dread, And ever so his foes shall fall! The sword is sharp, the spear is long, The arrow swift, the Gate is strong; The heart is bold that looks on gold; The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong. The dwarves of yore made mighty spells, While hammers fell like ringing bells In places deep, where dark things sleep, In hollow halls beneath the fells. On silver necklaces they strung The light of stars, on crowns they hung The dragon-fire, from twisted wire The melody of harps they wrung. The mountain throne once more is freed! O! Wandering folk, the summons heed! Come haste! Come haste! Across the waste! The king of friend and kin has need. Now we call over the mountains cold, ’Come back unto the caverns old!’ Here at the Gates the king awaits, His hands are rich with gems and gold. The king has come unto his hall Under the Mountain dark and tall. The Worm of Dread is slain and dead, And ever so our foes shall fall! Farewell we call to hearth and hall, Though wind may blow and rain may fall, We must away, ere break of day Far over the wood and mountain tall. To Rivendell, where Elves yet dwell In glades beneath the misty fell. Through moor and waste we ride in haste And whither then we cannot tell. With foes ahead, behind us dread, Beneath the sky shall be our bed, Until at last our toil be passed, Our journey done, our errand sped. We must away! We must away! We ride before the break of day! |

My star, I saw it high and far At the parting of the ways A light on the edge of the outer night Like silver set ablaze Where the round world plunges steeply down But on the old roads goes As an unseen bridge that on arches runs To coasts that no man knows I would not find the burning domes and sands Where reigns the sun, nor dare the snows Nor seek in mountains dark the landscapes of the men long lost to where no pathway goes But where they bloom those flowers fair In what air or land they grow What words beyond the world I heard If you would seek for know In a boat then, brother, far afloat You must labour in the sea And find yourself things out of mind: You will learn no more of me I would not find the burning domes and sands Where reigns the sun, nor dare the deadly snows Nor seek in mountains dark the landscapes of the men Of long lost to where no pathway goes There the twain enfolded, Phantom twilight, phantom twilight, And dim the mazes dark, unholy. I would never find the burning domes and sands Where reigns the sun, nor dare the snows Nor seek in mountains dark, the landscapes of the men Long lost to whom no pathway goes |

Leave the halls and caverns deep Were the forests wide and dim Stoops in shadow grey and grim Float beyond the world of trees Past the rushes, past the reeds Past the marshes, weaving weeds ...and the crowns of the seven kings, and the rods of the five wizards... South away! South away now! Far away seek the sunlight and the day. Hail, Eomir, king of the mark. |

3. | The Passing of the Grey Company (Summoning cover) | 08:58 | Show lyrics |
Over the land there lies a long shadow, westward reaching wings of darkness. The tower trembles, to the tombs of kings doom aproaches. The dead awaken, for the hour is come for the oathbreakers; at the stone of Erech they shall stand again and hear there a horn in the hills ringing. Whose shall the horn be? Who shall call them from grey twilight, the forgotten people? the heir of him to whom the oath they swore. From the North shall he come, need shall drive him. He shall pass the door to the path of the dead. On your knees... The grey company is arriving now... |

4. | Like Some Snow-White Marble Eyes (Summoning cover) | 07:16 | Show lyrics |
How countless they congregate O’er our tumultuous snow Which flows in shapes as tall as trees When wintry winds do blow As if with keenness for our fate Our faltering few steps on To white rest, and a place of rest Invisible at dawn And yet with neither love nor hate Those stars like some snow-white Morgoth snow-white marble eyes Without the gift of sight Upon this star I fixed my eye All over the wide land My horse moved on, hoof after hoof He raised and never stopped When down behind the cottage roof At once the planet dropped |

5. | Lugburz (Summoning cover) | 07:06 | Show lyrics |
Cold be hand and heart and bone, and cold be sleep under stone: never more to wake on stony bed, never, till the sun fails and the moon is dead. In the black wind the stars shall die, and still on gold here let them lie, till the dark lord lifts his hand over dead sea and withered land When the winter first begins to bite and stones crack in the frosty night, when pools are black and trees are bare, it is evil in the wild to fare. To lay down my will upon the Land, Lugbûrz No sound disturbs this place of blackened souls This winter walls of stone and ice behold thy might Again I’m kneeling down to hear these strange tunes of war Night, oh beloved night, your wisdom floats into my mind, and forms my thoughts of Middle-Earth to build up a new mighty empire |

6. | Long Lost to Where No Pathway Goes (Summoning cover) | 07:12 | Show lyrics |
My star, I saw it high and far At the parting of the ways A light on the edge of the outer night Like silver set ablaze Where the round world plunges steeply down But on the old roads goes As an unseen bridge that on arches runs To coasts that no man knows I would not find the burning domes and sands Where reigns the sun, nor dare the snows Nor seek in mountains dark the landscapes of the men long lost to where no pathway goes But where they bloom those flowers fair In what air or land they grow What words beyond the world I heard If you would seek for know In a boat then, brother, far afloat You must labour in the sea And find yourself things out of mind: You will learn no more of me I would not find the burning domes and sands Where reigns the sun, nor dare the deadly snows Nor seek in mountains dark the landscapes of the men Of long lost to where no pathway goes There the twain enfolded, Phantom twilight, phantom twilight, And dim the mazes dark, unholy, I would never find the burning domes and sands Where reigns the sun, nor dare the snows Nor seek in mountains dark, the landscapes of the men Long lost to whom no pathway goes |

7. | Land of the Dead (Summoning cover) | 11:52 | Show lyrics |
Where forest stream went through the wood And silent all the stens there stood Of tall trees, moveless, hanging dark With mottled shadows on their bark As faint as deepest sleeper’s breath An echo came as cold as death Long are the paths, of shadow made Where no foot’s print is ever laid No moon is there, no voice, no sound Of beating heart; a sigh profound Once in each age as each age dies Alone is heard. Far, far it lies The Land of Waiting where the Dead sit, In their thought’s shadow, by no moon lit Upon the plain, there rushed forth and high Shadows at dead end of night and mirrored in the sky Far far away beyond might of day And there lay the land of the dead of mortal cold decay |

Down the swift dark stream you go Back to lands you once did know! Leave the halls and caverns deep, Leave the northern mountains steep, Where the forest wide and dim Stoops in shadow grey and grim! Float beyond the world of trees Out into the whispering breeze, Past the rushes, past the reeds, Past the marsh’s waving weeds, Through the mist that riseth white Up from mere and pool at night! Follow, follow stars that leap Up the heavens cold and steep; Turn when dawn comes over the land, Over rapid, over sand, South away! and South away! Seek the sunlight and the day, Back to pasture, back to mead, Where the kine and oxen feed! Back to gardens on the hills Where the berry swells and fills Under sunlight, under day! South away! and South away! Down the swift dark stream you go Back to lands you once did know! Leave the halls and caverns deep, Leave the northern mountains steep, |

3. | The Darkness Dwells in Durin’s Halls | 05:46 | Show lyrics |
The world was young, the mountains green, No stain yet on the Moon was seen, No words were laid on stream or stone When Durin woke and walked alone. He named the nameless hills and dells; He drank from yet untasted wells; He stooped and looked in Mirrormere, And saw a crown of stars appear, As gems upon a silver thread, Above the shadow of his head. The world was fair, the mountains tall, In Elder Days before the fall Of mighty kings in Nargothrond And Gondolin, who now beyond The Western Seas have passed away: The world was fair in Durin’s Day. A king he was on carven throne In many-pillared halls of stone With golden roof and silver floor, And runes of power upon the door. The light of sun and star and moon In shining lamps of crystal hewn Undimmed by cloud or shade of night There shone for ever fair and bright. There hammer on the anvil smote, There chisel clove, and graver wrote; There forged was blade, and bound was hilt; The delver mined, the mason built. There beryl, pearl, and opal pale, And metal wrought like fishes’ mail, Buckler and corslet, axe and sword, And shining spears were laid in hoard. Unwearied then were Durin’s folk; Beneath the mountains music woke: The harpers harped, the minstrels sang, And at the gates the trumpets rang. The world is grey, the mountains old, The forge’s fire is ashen-cold; No harp is wrung, no hammer falls: The darkness dwells in Durin’s halls; The shadow lies upon his tomb In Moria, in Khazad-dûm. But still the sunken stars appear In dark and windless Mirrormere; There lies his crown in water deep, Till Durin wakes again from sleep. |

Eärendil was a mariner that tarried in Arvernien; he built a boat of timber felled in Nimbrethil to journey in; her sails he wove of silver fair, of silver were her lanterns made, her prow was fashioned like a swan, and light upon her banners laid. In panoply of ancient kings, in chained rings he armoured him; his shining shield was scored with runes to ward all wounds and harm from him; his bow was made of dragon-horn, his arrows shorn of ebony, of silver was his habergeon, his scabbard of chalcedony; his sword of steel was valiant, of adamant his helmet tall, an eagle-plume upon his crest, upon his breast an emerald. Beneath the Moon and under star he wandered far from northern strands, bewildered on enchanted ways beyond the days of mortal lands. From gnashing of the Narrow Ice where shadow lies on frozen hills, from nether heats and burning waste he turned in haste, and roving still on starless waters far astray at last he came to Night of Naught, and passed, and never sight he saw of shining shore nor light he sought. The winds of wrath came driving him, and blindly in the foam he fled from west to east and errandless, unheralded he homeward sped. There flying Elwing came to him, and flame was in the darkness lit; more bright than light of diamond the fire upon her carcanet. The Silmaril she bound on him and crowned him with the living light and dauntless then with burning brow he turned his prow; and in the night from Otherworld beyond the Sea there strong and free a storm arose, a wind of power in Tarmenel; by paths that seldom mortal goes his boat it bore with biting breath as might of death across the grey and long-forsaken seas distressed: from east to west he passed away. Through Evernight he back was borne on black and roaring waves that ran o’er leagues unlit and foundered shores that drowned before the Days began, until he heard on strands of pearl where ends the world the music long, where ever-foaming billows roll the yellow gold and jewels wan. He saw the Mountain silent rise where twilight lies upon the knees of Valinor, and Eldamar beheld afar beyond the seas. A wanderer escaped from night to haven white he came at last, to Elvenhome the green and fair where keen the air, where pale as glass beneath the Hill of Ilmarin a-glimmer in valley sheer the lamplit towers of Tirion are mirrored on the Shadowmere. |

In the centre of the empire of darkness Black fortress stands mighty and proud The shelter for the traced and tortured For the one who’s damned A dragon is watching for fortress Black knights are controlling the land To save their proteges from torment They fight to defend Rancour, against all raiders Beware, if you’re renegade’s hunter Watch out in slough’s haze Vigilance, ’cause death waits Recourse, to the traced Be calm, they’ll give you your shelter Restless, they fight for freedom Never, they don’t let you fall Mordor A shoal of the knights of torture Are hunting a witch to the dell Sullen shades are raiding their squad Church’s minions fell A black knight leads through the mire And in mordor she finds a new life A life without pain and torment No murder, no lies Rancour, against all raiders Beware, if you’re renegade’s hunter Watch out in slough’s haze Vigilance, ’cause death waits Recourse, to the traced Be calm, they’ll give you shelter Restless, they fight for freedom Never, they don’t let you fall Mordor |

7. | The Flammifer of Westernesse | 05:58 | Show lyrics |
He came unto the timeless halls where shining fall the countless years, and endless reigns the Elder King in Ilmarin on Mountain sheer; and words unheard were spoken then of folk of Men and Elven-kin. Beyond the world were visions showed forbid to those that dwell therein. A ship then new they built for him of mithril and of elven-glass with shining prow; no shaven oar nor sail she bore on silver mast: the Silmaril as lantern light and banner bright with living flame to gleam thereon by Elbereth herself was set, who thither came And wings immortal made for him, and laid on him undying doom, to sail the shoreless skies and come behind the Sun and light of Moon. From Evereven’s lofty hills where softly silver fountains fall his wings him bore, a wandering light, beyond the mighty Mountain Wall. From World’s End then he turned away, and yearned again to find afar his home through shadows journeying, and burning as an island star on high above the mists he came, a distant flame before the Sun, a wonder ere the waking dawn where grey the Norland waters run. And over Middle-earth he passed and heard at last the weeping sore of women and of elven-maids in Elder Days, in years of yore. But on him mighty doom was laid, till Moon should fade, an orbéd star to pass, and tarry never more on Hither Shores where mortals are; For ever still a herald on an errand that should never rest to bear his shining lamp afar, the Flammifer of Westernesse. Eärendil was a mariner that tarried in Arvernien; he built a boat of timber felled in Nimbrethil to journey in; her sails he wove of silver fair, of silver were her lanterns made, her prow was fashioned like a swan, and light upon her banners laid. Beneath the Moon and under star he wandered far from northern strands, bewildered on enchanted ways beyond the days of mortal lands. |

And in the glade a light was seen Of stars and shadows shimmering Immortal maiden elven-wise... Long was the way through iron halls and darkling doors And woods of nightshade morrowless Elven-wise dance with me... Cold be hand, heart and bone And cold be my sleep under stone Never more I’ll wake on a snowy bed Never - ’til the sun fails and the moon is dead In the black winds the stars shall die And still on gold here let them lie ’Til the dark lord lifts his hand Over dead seas and withered land And I’ll fly away... Where I dwell none can say For into darkness fell my star In Mordor where the shadows are |

10. | When Winter Is Coming | 10:08 | Show lyrics |
Seek for the Sword that was broken: In Imladris it dwells; There shall be counsels taken Stronger than Morgul-spells. There shall be shown a token That Doom is near at hand, For Isildur’s Bane shall waken, And the Halfling forth shall stand. When winter first begins to bite and stones crack in the frosty night, when pools are black and trees are bare, ’tis evil in the Wild to fare. When the black breath blows and death’s shadow grows and all lights pass, come athelas! come athelas! But Wanderers in the shadowed land despair not! For though dark they stand, all woods there be must end at last, and see the open sun go past: the setting sun, the rising sun, the day’s end, or the day begun. For east or west all woods must fail... Seek for the Sword that was broken: In Imladris it dwells; There shall be counsels taken Stronger than Morgul-spells. |
